Ownership & Funding

Who owns TRAVELHIFI

TRAVELHIFI, published at travelhifi.com, is owned and operated by the same small independent team of editors who produce it. There is no parent media group, no holding company with a portfolio of travel brands, and no outside shareholder with a claim on our coverage. The people who decide what gets published are the people who own the site, and this page exists so a reader deciding whether to trust a deal post or a review can see the whole financial picture in five minutes.

What we are not owned by

The travel content industry has a structural problem this page is built to answer: much of what looks like independent travel advice is published by companies that sell travel. So, plainly:

  • No airline, hotel group, cruise line or tour operator owns any part of this site or has any role in it.
  • No booking platform, online travel agency or metasearch company owns any part of this site.
  • No tourism board, destination marketing organisation or government funds our operations or directs our coverage.
  • No gear manufacturer or retailer owns any part of this site.

When we recommend an airline, a hotel or a bag, the recommendation is not routed through anyone’s inventory. We have nothing to sell you except our judgment, and judgment is only worth selling if it is not already sold.

Where the money comes from

The site is funded from two streams, and readers see both in operation:

  • Advertising. Display advertising served by ad partners, and occasional sponsored content that is labelled as sponsored at the top, in plain language. What we sell and what we refuse is detailed on the advertise page.
  • Affiliate commissions. Some links on the site, to booking pages, hotels and gear retailers, pay us a commission if you book or buy after clicking. The merchant pays it, your price does not change, and the mechanics of the tracking are explained honestly in the cookie policy.

We currently take no government grants, no tourism board money, and no investment from the industries we cover. If that ever changes in any form, this page changes first, before the money arrives, with the funder and the amount category named.

How the money is kept away from the coverage

Funding creates pressure, and pretending otherwise would be the first dishonest sentence on this page. What we can promise is the machinery that resists it. Editorial decisions, what to cover, what to recommend, what to warn against, are made without reference to commission rates or advertiser identity, and affiliate links are attached after a recommendation exists, never the other way around. Deals are published because they are cheap, not because they convert. Advertisers get no preview of coverage, no veto, and no protection from critical reporting; more than one industry has learned that buying an ad here buys an ad, nothing else. The complete rules, including our no-junkets policy and how review products are handled, are in the editorial standards.

Conflicts of interest

Editors here are travellers, which means we hold airline miles, hotel loyalty status and the usual traveller’s tangle of credit cards, like every one of our readers. The rule is that no editor writes about a company in which they hold a financial interest beyond ordinary consumer participation, and loyalty status is disclosed in a piece where it plausibly shaped the experience being described, because an airline treats its top-tier flyers differently and a review should say from which side of that line it was written.

Keeping this page honest

This page is a standing claim, and standing claims rot unless maintained. We review it whenever our funding structure changes and on a recurring schedule regardless, and material changes are dated. If you believe anything here is incomplete or has quietly become false, write to support@travelhifi.com, and expect the same corrections treatment any factual claim on this site gets. A funding page we would not submit to our own fact-checking policy would not be worth publishing.
