Air France Hands Denver to United, Takes Nashville and San Diego
Air France adds Paris nonstops to Nashville and San Diego in 2027 and leaves Denver, where United will fly daily.
Air France will start three-times-weekly Airbus A350-900 flights from Paris to San Diego on May 3, 2027, and to Nashville on May 14, 2027. Both routes run Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Charles de Gaulle.
Denver already lost that French nonstop. The last Air France departure left on Oct. 10, 2026, and United Airlines will take the Paris lane daily from May 27, 2027.
Nashville and San Diego Get Paris; Denver Does Not
The French flag carrier framed the two new cities as summer 2027 additions, not as a year-round overlay. Each flight will use an A350-900 with business, premium economy, extra-legroom economy and economy seats. Air France will be the only airline with a nonstop between Paris and either airport.
Denver is the city that falls off the map. Seasonal Paris flights that began in 2021 stopped on Oct. 10, 2026, and Air France said they will not come back in 2027. A spokesperson said the Denver seats will move to other routes, “resulting in no overall reduction in capacity across the region.”
United then occupies the hole with a product Air France never offered there: a daily, year-round 787-9. Nashville and San Diego get the first Paris metal they have ever had, on a thinner three-day pattern, in the same season that Denver’s next nonstop becomes a United flight.
THE ROUTE SHUFFLE

- May 14, 2027: Paris-Nashville begins on the same weekday pattern and aircraft.
- May 27, 2027: United starts daily Denver-Paris flying with a 257-seat 787-9.
Air France’s newsroom posted the U.S. pair as a summer network add, with San Diego first and Nashville following.

San Diego Was the Largest U.S. Market Without Paris
San Diego International Airport said it is the largest U.S. market without nonstop Paris service, and that Paris was its largest unserved international market. Airport officials put demand between San Diego and Paris up 14% this year compared with 2025.
We are very pleased to welcome Air France to San Diego. Demand for travel between San Diego and Europe continues to grow, and this new nonstop service to Paris will provide travelers with more convenient access to one of the world’s most popular destinations and connections throughout Europe. It will also strengthen business and economic ties between Southern California and France by expanding opportunities for business travelers and connecting our region more directly with French industries and markets.
Atif Saeed, President and CEO, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority
Nicolas Hénin, Air France-KLM’s SVP of North America, called San Diego a market with “tremendous potential” and said the route gives Southern California another path into Paris and the rest of the Air France network. Mayor Todd Gloria tied the flight to visitors, local firms and ties with France after a recent trip to Paris.
The route becomes the airport’s 90th nonstop and its fourth European link. Paris will join nonstop destinations from San Diego that already include Amsterdam, London and Munich. Air France will be the eighth international airline at SAN and a second SkyTeam transatlantic option beside KLM’s Amsterdam service, with alliance perks across 19 member airlines.
EUROPE NONSTOPS SAN DIEGO ALREADY HAS
- London Heathrow: British Airways accounted for about 204,600 two-way seats in summer 2026, per OAG Schedules Analyser.
- Munich: Lufthansa offered about 107,700 seats on the same measure.
- Amsterdam: KLM, Air France’s sister airline, offered about 50,700 seats.
- Paris: Air France adds the missing CDG link on May 3, 2027, three times a week.
OAG counted about 364,200 two-way Europe seats from San Diego in summer 2026, up 10.5%. The new Paris flight does not walk into an empty market. It walks into the one big European capital that was still missing.
Nashville’s Fourth European Nonstop Comes From SkyTeam
Air France said it will be the only airline to serve Nashville from continental Europe. British Airways has held London Heathrow since 2018. Aer Lingus and Icelandair added Dublin and Reykjavik in 2025. Paris becomes the fourth European nonstop, and the first from the SkyTeam transatlantic joint venture that also includes Delta, KLM and Virgin Atlantic.
The airline assigned the Paris-to-Nashville flight number AF046 as a nod to Dolly Parton, born in 1946 and closely tied to the city. The return is AF047. The gesture is marketing. The hardware is not: an A350-900 is a widebody built to fill through Charles de Gaulle, not only with people whose trip ends in Paris.
Sabre Market Intelligence put Nashville-Europe two-way O&D at 568,900 passengers in 2025, up 22.4%. San Diego’s Europe market is larger and slower-growing. Paris itself is a much smaller slice in Nashville than in San Diego, which is why the connecting bank at CDG matters more in Tennessee than the local point-to-point story does.
EUROPE TRAFFIC IN 2025
| City | Europe O&D (two-way) | Change vs 2024 | Paris O&D |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nashville | 568,900 | +22.4% | 33,600 (4th European destination) |
| San Diego | 800,700 | +7.3% | 53,000 (2nd, +28.3%) |
OAG put Nashville’s summer 2026 two-way Europe seats at about 220,400, up 17.5%. That seat count is still a one-world-heavy map. SkyTeam had no nonstop of its own until Air France filed Paris.
NASHVILLE’S EUROPEAN NONSTOPS
- London Heathrow: British Airways, about 125,900 two-way seats in summer 2026.
- Dublin: Aer Lingus, about 54,500 seats.
- Reykjavik: Icelandair, about 40,000 seats.
- Paris Charles de Gaulle: Air France from May 14, 2027, three times a week on an A350-900.
A 33,600-passenger Paris market cannot fill that cabin on local traffic alone, three days a week, all summer. The airplane earns its keep if Nashville passengers connect beyond Paris, to Africa, the Middle East and India, and if Europeans use CDG to reach Music City without a London or Dublin change.
United Takes Daily Paris at Its Denver Hub
United announced daily year-round Denver-Paris flights beginning May 27, 2027. Denver International Airport said it will be United’s first service on the city pair and the first time DEN-CDG has had a daily schedule. Paris already ranks as Denver’s second-largest European market, behind only London.
The 787-9 is listed at 257 seats. A daily airplane at that size puts 1,799 seats on the market each way, every week. Air France’s last Denver season never matched that frequency, and it never had United’s connecting machine behind it. Denver Mayor Mike Johnston called the United decision a major investment in the city as a global hub.
United’s decision to connect Denver directly with Paris is a major investment in our city and in Denver’s future as a global hub. This new daily, year-round service will bring our communities closer together, create new opportunities for travelers and businesses, and strengthen Denver’s connection to the world.
Mike Johnston, Mayor of Denver
United will leave Denver at 8:35 p.m. and reach Paris at 1:35 p.m. the next day. The westbound flight leaves Paris at 3:45 p.m. and lands at 5:50 p.m. In 2027 United plans 204 nonstop destinations from Denver, 179 of them domestic and 25 international across 14 countries. Paris becomes the fifth European city from that hub, after Frankfurt, London Heathrow, Munich and Rome.
THE PARIS MAP AFTER THE HANDOFF
| Route | Airline | Date | Pattern | Aircraft |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paris to San Diego | Air France | May 3, 2027 | 3x weekly | A350-900 |
| Paris to Nashville | Air France | May 14, 2027 | 3x weekly | A350-900 |
| Paris to Denver | Air France | Ended Oct. 10, 2026 | Seasonal, not returning in 2027 | – |
| Paris to Denver | United | May 27, 2027 | Daily, year-round | 787-9, 257 seats |
Denver has no Paris nonstop after Oct. 10, 2026, until United begins on May 27, 2027. Anyone who used Air France for SkyTeam miles, a CDG connection, or a cabin they preferred to United’s 787 will sit in that gap.
The Joint Venture Walks Off a United Fortress
Air France is a close partner of Delta Air Lines. With KLM and Virgin Atlantic, they run a joint venture on U.S.-Europe flying that lets them coordinate schedules and fares. That structure is useful in cities where Delta can feed a French widebody. It is a weak hand in Denver, where United’s hub, not Delta’s, holds the connecting traffic.
Nashville and San Diego reverse that math. Delta does not run a fortress in either city, so Air France is not parking an A350 next to a partner that already dominates the local feed. It is claiming two Paris monopolies and sending the beyond-traffic through CDG. KLM already flies San Diego from Amsterdam, so SkyTeam is doubling down on Southern California rather than opening it from zero.
Air France offered about 3.69 million two-way seats between Charles de Gaulle and the United States in summer 2026, up 4.8%, a total that already included Las Vegas plus extra flying at Newark and Orlando. Nashville and San Diego take the U.S. list to 20 destinations for summer 2027. Denver is not on that list.
Delta is adding Europe flying of its own in 2027, which keeps the joint venture growing even as Air France leaves Colorado.
DELTA’S NEW 2027 EUROPE ROUTES
- Austin to Paris: Austin Bergstrom to Charles de Gaulle begins March 27, 2027, on an Airbus A330.
- Boston to Venice: Logan to Marco Polo begins May 7, 2027.
- Detroit to Athens: Wayne County to Athens International begins June 8, 2027.
KLM and Virgin Atlantic have not announced new U.S. routes for 2027. The French end of the venture is doing the prospecting, and it is prospecting in cities United does not own.
When Do Air France Nashville Tickets Go on Sale?
Air France will put tickets on sale October 14, 2026. All times below are local, as the airline published them, and the airline said the schedule can still change.
AIR FRANCE FLIGHT TIMES
| Flight | Route | Departs | Arrives |
|---|---|---|---|
| AF058 | Paris to San Diego | 10:10 a.m. | 12:50 p.m. same day |
| AF059 | San Diego to Paris | 3:10 p.m. | 11:05 a.m. next day |
| AF046 | Paris to Nashville | 2:10 p.m. | 4:40 p.m. same day |
| AF047 | Nashville to Paris | 6:55 p.m. | 10:15 a.m. next day |
San Diego’s westbound departure is a morning CDG launch that lands before 1 p.m. local, which is a usable same-day arrival for a West Coast city. Nashville leaves Paris after lunch and turns in under two and a half hours for a 6:55 p.m. eastbound departure. Both returns reach Charles de Gaulle in the late morning, in time for the bank that feeds the rest of Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Air France flies more than one A350-900 cabin, so the exact seat count will depend on which jet shows up. Travelers should expect lie-flat business, a premium-economy cabin, and economy that includes extra-legroom rows. The aircraft is the same family San Diego already sees on Lufthansa’s Munich route, not a narrowbody like Aer Lingus uses to Nashville.
Three Flights a Week Against a Daily Dreamliner
Nashville and San Diego win a nonstop they did not have. They do not win a daily. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays mean a missed flight is a two-day wait, and the published plan is a summer 2027 season, not the year-round pattern United is putting on Denver-Paris.
Denver loses SkyTeam’s metal and gains frequency, a 787-9, and a hub airline that can fill the cabin from the Mountain West. The people who lose twice are Denver passengers who wanted Air France’s cabin or a CDG connection, and who now have no Paris nonstop until May 27, 2027. San Diego passengers who already used British Airways, Lufthansa or KLM get a fourth European city and a second SkyTeam hub. Nashville passengers get continental Europe without changing in London or Dublin.
The first Air France A350 is due in San Diego on May 3, 2027. Denver’s next Paris nonstop is United’s, on May 27.
